Hi there! You've reached Cass' cell phone. I'm unable to take your call right now, but please leave me your name, number, and message, and I'll call you back as soon as I can!
text | video | audio | in person | sticky notes | etc.
[ Literally two seconds before there's a soft whoomph from Hiro falling into the beanbag. He still hasn't gotten the hang of landing on something not his face.
He sits up immediately, floating Cass' comm before it can hit the floor and looking around for her. ]
[Cass is already stepping in to hold him before he's even steady on his feet. Her arms snake around and latch on to pull him close, scrambling, almost, to make sure he's really here.]
[ Flesh and blood, heart beating and lungs sucking in a sharp breath. He's barely in her arms before the first sob rises up out of his throat. Fingers trembling, he squeezes around her waist tightly. ]
[What for? she doesn't know. Hiro's in no real danger. She's in no real danger. But she has to make sure he knows. She has him, it'll be okay, they'll get through this moment, they've done it before and they have to go through it again but she sucks in her breath and tucks him against her, hand at the back of his head.]
[ He leans against her then, tears rolling down his face. It hurts. It hurts so much a second time around - having the wound torn open again is just as bad as enduring it in the first place. If anything it hurts more knowing that they had a chance to save him and messed it up. ]
[Does Cass know? Of course she doesn't. But if there was anything she was always capable of doing, it was believing. And right now, she has to believe. For both their sakes. She takes a breath, letting him cry and holding him.]
Of course not. I told you, remember? Where you are, that's where I'll be.
... Hiro, when your mother and father died, I-- no, even before that. I promised them that if anything happened, I'll be there for you and Tadashi. That I'll watch you and make sure you're happy. [Is clinging to Tadashi the right thing to do? Will they be able to bring him up? Will staying here forever so they can be the correct thing? She doesn't know. She doesn't know, but--]
I don't know if there's anything I can do for you, but I promise. No matter what, I'll always be on your side.
[ That hurts too, though it's a different kind of ache. He never knew their parents - sometimes even forgets that Aunt Cass isn't his mom - but mentioning them strikes a chord all the same. He nods after a moment. ]
When ... when they died - [ When Tadashi died-- ] how did you keep going?
Of course it's enough! [Her smile just grows a bit wider, more strong and confident in her sincerity.] It's more than enough. You mean the world to me, Hiro Hamada.
[ Except to hide in his comm for most of the next few weeks, but you better believe part of that includes letting his aunt know exactly where he is the whole time. ]
Okay. Then let's stay here. [But not standing. Cass is still tall enough -- rather, Hiro is still just short enough -- that she can lead him to an armchair and sink down in it, tugging him along and holding him close to her.]
[ One day, not too long from now, he will be taller than her. But not yet. He's glad enough for now just to be close to her, to let his parent make everything better for a while. Before long, he's buried his face against her shoulder. ]

I'm here, Hiro.

Yeah ... Y-yeah. We're both still here.

Let's wait for him, okay?
no subject
We have to stay here forever now. We can't go back without him.

no subject
I had you, of course. Even if things get hard, as long as I have you, I can keep going. I have to -- I'm your parent.
no subject
That's enough?

no subject
Y-you too. I don't know - if you weren't here I couldn't --
[ The thought of enduring this alone is too terrible to contemplate. ]

And I'm here. I will be. We'll be together, okay?
no subject
Yeah. I'm - I'm not going anywhere.
[ Except to hide in his comm for most of the next few weeks, but you better believe part of that includes letting his aunt know exactly where he is the whole time. ]

But stay with me today.
no subject
I can do that much.

[She squeezes him in her arms.]
Let's go sit down. You're not cold, right?

Just worry about yourself.
no subject
C-can't I worry about both of us?
