Hi there! You've reached Cass' cell phone. I'm unable to take your call right now, but please leave me your name, number, and message, and I'll call you back as soon as I can!
text | video | audio | in person | sticky notes | etc.
[ The first of many, many pictures from Hiro is a selfie of him in the front seat of the car, Tadashi driving, and an angle that shows everyone else in their seats behind them. Including, y'know, the dog. He looks stoked. ]
[Oh no how cute. She's so saving that picture. She's going to have a scrapbook of a trip she didn't even go on. Hiro looks so excited and that makes her day.]
Make sure you send me pictures of you behind the wheel then!!! That's so exciting, glad to see you're having fun :))
[Reminders to drive safely? Warnings about not running over any of his friends? A teasing comment? Nah. No need. Hiro knows all the warnings and she trusts him enough not to rain down with that during his vacation. Besides, Tadashi's there.]
[They just got to Disneyland and the morning's a horrible mess before they even leave the hotel, but he's found a quieter spot in the park and he just. He wants to check on her so call it is. Pick up pick uppickup]
[Of course she's going to pick up. She hasn't let her comm go three feet of her since the boys went off on their trip, needing to be the easy-to-reach parent that she tries to be. She picks up on the beginning of the third ring?]
[He's not actually interacted with Hiro and Tadashi's aunt yet-- been aware of her arriving, knew that she was checking up on Sugar Ray and making sure Soba had clean water while they were on the road. (He'd been sure to throw her an extra rat before he left, but who knows with that snake. The weather's been warmer, so she's probably been hungrier.)
So-- he might as well get some practice in on not being a complete jerk, and thank her while he's thinking about it.]
hey this is shinjiro i live with hiro and tadashi anyway thanks for watching the animals i hope sugar ray hasn't been an asshole the whole time
I know this must be very late for you but I thought you should know that Hiro has gotten himself into trouble again. [ Wow, Magicman, that's totally the best way to break things to people. ]
[ Hiro's been quiet but cheerful enough in the wake of that mind dive. Slowly picking up his old rhythm again, returning to work (now from Heropa) and requesting his favorite foods again. It's been good living with Aunt Cass again. De Chima #1 is a great place - and he still ducks in there during lunch or a late night at work if he needs a place to crash, or if he just wants to hang out with their roommates - but anywhere Aunt Cass lives is just home. After the mess of the past few months, it's terribly nice to just go back to being a kid again for a while.
With a few bumps in the road. His encounter with Crane at the swear-in had shaken him; it had also reminded him that he'd meant to tell someone about it and not try to do anything with the man himself. The timing is late, now, since it's been a few weeks since that entire mind dive incident ... but better late than never, right? That's what he tells himself when he pads down the stairs at about ten or eleven, looking to see if his aunt is still up. ]
[Cass used to sleep relatively early in San Fransokyo. When you're on your feet running a café all day and you have to be up at 4AM every morning to do it all over again, you need a lot of rest. But she has no café in the imPort towns -- yet -- so lately, even twelve o'clock has been seeing her awake sometimes. Lately, she's been sitting at the coffee table filling up a notebook with plans about that café she talked about with Tadashi. Tonight's the same; she's in her pajamas but still awake, a cup of tea sitting in front of her when she looks up from her notes, smiling when she sees who it is.]
Of course it's all right, Baymax. If you've got any time today, the boys are still at work. I can ask them to run some errands before coming home to buy you some time.
[ And Cass will be getting this in her inbox, because third time's the charm -- and/or Shepard's getting increasingly desperate about finding Kaidan. ]
[Okay. Okay, don't sound sad. The point here is distraction, do not sound sad.]
Hhheyy Auntie C! Y'know I was sitting here and thinking that you are not getting the full mileage you COULD be getting out of having me as your honorary nephew! That was not a speedster joke, unless it was funny and then it was.
We should go on an aunt-slash-nephew date! Me and Aunt I used to do this ALLLL the time, especially when I was little and it's so bomb. We could go to a science center! Or like, one of those trampoline rooms, those are awesome. Something fun! And then we can do something you wanna do, so we both get to do something we want ANNND we get to introduce the other person to something we like! It's pretty super rad, I know, I'm a genius.
RIGHT! SO! You get back to me, we'll plan this shindig out. Talk to you later! Love ya!
[It's a good thing she didn't notice until work was over, she thinks.
Any other day, a call or text from Wally would not have gone ignored for this long, but with Wanda, Tadashi and Kaneki gone and out, they're shorthanded, and it's busy at the café. By the time Cass has said goodbye to the last patron and cleaned up the place, it's well past closing hours and she's tired, although she did appreciate the distraction. Anyway, it's late when she finally finds time to look at her phone and realizes there's a message in her voicemail. And when she listens to it, she cries. It's been a long two days without Tadashi, and she's finally been here long enough to experience multiple disappearances (and sometimes returns), but more than the grief of loss what hits her now is relief.
Thank goodness. Wally is still here. She hasn't forgotten what she heard from him at August's swear-in.
When she answers, she makes sure her voice is strong and cheerful, but not too fake. None of the sniveling stuff. Wally's smiling for her, and it just won't feel right not to answer to that.]
Wally! I'm sorry, I just saw this message. I'd love to go out somewhere -- I actually haven't been to a science center in years, if you have anywhere in mind. And I'll have to think of something to show you, too!
[There is a plain white box with a red stick-on bow sitting right by the front door with "Miss Cass" written on a label in scrawling handwriting. Inside the box is a sealed bag of this delicious dish and a note in that same handwriting signed by Kang saying "Merry Christmas."]
[Minato walks... well, next door... to leave Cass's gift, a fairly sizable box wrapped in shimmery royal blue paper with a silver bow. The note on it reads:
Cass-san,
We saw this and thought of you.
Merry Christmas,
Minato & Shinjiro
Yeah, Minato totally overtook both that wrapping and the note writing. Who knows what Shinji would do left to his own devices.
Everything in Cass' cafe is always so pretty that Jaime actually felt moved to make an effort when it comes to wrapping her gift. It's still a little messy, but hey, there are straight lines in there.
Now your measuring cups can match the rest of the stuff in your cafe while you bake. I hope you guys have a good one. Remember to come next door if you want to try some tamales!
